I’ve built this type of feature natively in so many apps that I lost track. Now you can dynamically generate initials placeholders for avatars on the fly with Icotar.
Just use the initials endpoint. Here’s an example for my name:
https://icotar.com/initials/Craig%20PharesYou can set the background color, text color, and size. Or let Icotar generate a random curated Material Design color for your background based on the name.
